Salt

-Salt-

What is the truth?

Salt is seen more and more as the cause of the high blood pressure with result the many deaths by a brain stroke, heart attack or heart disease.

But what kind of salt is responsible for that?

The natural sea-salt crystals?

Or...?

Starting from the base

- The embryo, the beginning of life, grows in a fluid of the same composition as the sea.-
- Blood contains almost all the elements of the seawater.
- Also the brain is constantly bathing in a salty cerebrospinal fluid.-

Above phrases are scientific conclusions and are showing the relation of the sea, with all its elements, with life.

- The body contains a rather big amount of salt, approximately 200 grams, 0.28% of its weight, for its physical needs.-

Also this is a scientific conclusion, with the confirmation that this salt together with its minerals and trace-elements is found all over the body, the bones, the brains, the organs, the cells, blood, not only for the right functioning but also as a help for almost all the physical processes. It assists for the food intake, the digestion and the final assimilation, it takes care of the humidity balance in the cells which is extremely important for the whole body and specially the brain. It is indispensable for the working of the nerve system, the transport of the oxygen to and from the lungs and in fact for so many more life functions.

Is that correct?

You can ask your doctor or otherwise read it in the medical literature.
If the elements of salt are considered as the base for the well functioning of the body, then salt is as the oil of the motor of our car. Without oil the motor does not live very long.
Also this is confirmed by the scientists of medicine; without salt we will die. Even more correct; without water and salt life is not possible!

Why salt is seen as the villain?

This in fact is a crucial question. It is at least confusing to know that salt is absolutely necessary for the functioning of the body and on the other hand to consider it as the cause of high blood pressure with result the so many deaths from heart and brain strokes.

It cannot be only because of the high consumption of salt, as too much salt in a meal you notice immediately and it is impossible to consume. Or could it be because of the hidden salt in all our daily shopping's, such as bread, cheese, meat, snacks and so many more products?

Do we ever ask ourselves what kind of salt the scientists are talking about in this judgment? What kind of salt is used during the so many researches to find the cause of these terrible sicknesses?
Or is it considered not to be relevant, as salt is salt and it is all the same?

Salt and salt, is it all the same?

In order to understand this, we have first to investigate how salt is created and how it comes to the consumption salt. Only then will we be able to judge what kind of salt could be the cause of all the problems.

Salt is found in the earth, hundreds of millions years old, but is also freshly crystallized every year in the solar sea salt works. This kind of salt, old or fresh is a direct composition of the sea and contains therefore all the elements which exist in the sea. This salt consists mainly of sodium and chloride, app. 98% and app. 2% of minerals and trace-elements (app. 80 pieces). This salt is called natural salt.

The industry takes this natural salt and dissolves it in water in order to clean it from all eventual dirt, non solvable elements and from its minerals through chemical refining process. This solution is recrystallized and consists of 99.9% sodium and chloride and is called industrial salt.

Worldwide, the total yearly production of salt, natural and industrial, is app. 200 millions tons, of which one third is natural sea salt, produced by solar sea salt works. Most of this salt, app. 60-80% goes into the chemical or related industries as first material for the processing of more than 10.000 products, among which the salt for the consumers' market.

It is known that only 10% of the worldwide production is used for human consumption, either for direct use as table salt, or as an additive for the food industry. It is clear that the biggest part of this salt is industrial salt, as natural salt can only be found more or less as a specialty.

This means that industrial salt has to be examined more carefully for the sake of health. Namely this kind of salt is provided with various additives for the colour, against clotting and inorganic iodine. Also for the processing of industrial food, bread, cheese, meat, etc. salt is provided with various chemical additives according to the demand of each product, colour, taste, preservation etc.

It is herewith clear that the salt produced by the industry, in whatever form, has nothing to do with pure natural salt, a creation of the seawater with the energy of the sun. There is no industry in the world which can produce natural salt with its more then 80 elements as the sea. Therefore industrial salt cannot be considered as natural or act as such.

Does it matter for the body, natural salt or industrial salt?

This is in fact the main question of the whole subject. In case the composition of salt is irrelevant to the health problems, the kind of salt is not important and only the quantity will remain for research for the cause of high blood pressure.

However the scientists are here divided. Here starts the confusion.

All the supporters of the natural salt, either Himalayan salt, or Celtic sea-salt from Bretagne, or Solar sea-salt from the Mediterranean, say that only natural salt can be absorbed in the form of ions by our organism and this salt is good for the total body as described before. It is even said that this kind of salt is helping in the regulation of the heart beat and the blood pressure. This and much more you can see by yourselves in the various sites, among others:

www.curezone.com/foods/saltcure.asp (salt that heals and salt that kills.)
www.himalyancrystalsalt.com/wellness/answers.html (salt facts, from the compelling book, Water & Salt- Essence of life, by Dr. Barbara Hendel, MD and Peter Ferreira)
www.watercure.com (van Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, the health specialist in the field of water and salt.)

The industry says that by adding Potassium-Iodide the salt becomes good for the thyroid gland problems and the other additives for bleaching, anti caking and the stabilizing of the iodine are allowed and accepted by the departments of food control and the medical establishments. Besides the industry says: our salt is better than the natural sea salt as it is refined from all heavy metals of the polluted sea of today. On top, in relation to health problems, they have developed a new type of salt with less sodium and more potassium, for those who are on reduced salt diet.

Whom do we have to believe now?

This is the biggest problem and for sure if you have a problem!

On one side we have a natural product and on the other side an industrial product made by man. We can see it symbolically as the battle between nature and the human ingenuity.

We could ask ourselves: is man so ingenious that he can equalize himself with nature?
Is human ingenuity so clever that it can regulate the so complicated life functions?
Or is man so arrogant that he thinks he knows better than nature?
Or maybe the commercial values are influencing all of this?

Each one has to make his own conclusions according to his believes, either in the power of nature or in the power of the industry with the human ingenuity. But one important thing we have to ask ourselves in the research about the truth in salt: why only iodine is added for health purposes to the industrial salt and not all the (app. 80) minerals and trace-elements, which are found in the natural salt and which are proved to be so necessary for our well functioning?

Maybe it is really too difficult for man to copy the natural products and that's the cause of all the problems?
